Survivor 47 | Ep. 4

Survivor 47 | Ep. 4

Previously on, Survivor.

LAVO - Night 7

The scene back at LAVO after Aysha is voted out begins with the image of a snake and a blindsided Sol. Teeny was the one who voted for Sol and we hear her tell us she voted Sol because she couldn’t bare to write down Aysha’s name. We see the inner conflict she is faced with in playing the game Survivor and who doesn’t love that? This is another example of what Jon Lovett warned us about at the marooning, people are going to want to play a certain way or should play Survivor a certain way, but actually play the game completely differently. Teeny tells us that she wanted to be cutthroat and ruthless, but she is struggling with that reality. We shall see if she pivots and plays true to herself.

GATA - Day 8

Oh goodness, Sam is white guy freestyle rapping. It’s cringeworthy. Ok, thank goodness it’s over. The women at GATA are the first of the season to make mention of the obligatory women’s alliance or this iteration “the bread winners” of Anika, Rachel, and Sierra. For now, this is a nothing burger. Sierra is trying to be the swing vote and I think she is positioned well.

TUKU - Day 8

At TUKU, we are thrust into the “Sue is about to be everyone’s favorite” portion of the episode. She’s emotional and EVERYONE is underestimating the “mom” and “grandma” of the tribe. Myself included. I got sucked into the narrative that Gabe’s Survivor destiny delivered him on the same tribe as Sue and he’s going to lead that charge all the way.

SUE IS HERE TO PLAY!

Fast forward to her lying about her age and finding the TUKU Beware Advantage. YES SUE!!! Now, don’t tell anyone about it!!!!

Brilliant design by Team FLINT by suspending the idol high in the trees and upon Sue cutting the rope, it released the idol and sent it plummeting back to the ground, shattering and splattering red paint all over the place! Think of it as Drea’s idol (season 42) to the next level.

Sue retrieves the fully powered idol but is left with cleaning up the literal Survivor crime scene. She sweeps, she scoops, and she thinks she’s done it. And she has. All the paint is taken care of EXCEPT the one place she can’t see…

HER FACE!!!

Will Tiyana and Caroline buy that Sue cut herself? We shall see.

LAVO - Day 8

No surprise at LAVO after Rome plays his idol, the hunt is on! Everyone is looking for idols. Then, the music changes and Rome treats Sol like he’s an idiot. Credit to Sol for not losing it on this ANNOYING kid. Rome expects Sol to just do what he says and play the game how Rome wants him to. Rome goes up a level and is literally tantruming and following Sol around.

What’s interesting is that despite everything that has happened to this point at LAVO and the “alliance” of Rome, Teeny, Genevieve, and Kishon, Rome has taken it to such another level that it’s crossing a line. The line it’s crossing is into a zone of unacceptable gameplay.

Let’s think, how does Rome’s gameplay effect LAVO?

  • To Rome, he will stop at nothing to make sure Sol goes home.

  • To Sol, it’s unbearable and suffocating.

  • To Teeny and Genevieve, it’s seems like too much and becoming a liability.

  • To Kishon, bring on the chaos.

If I was on LAVO, Rome would be a very difficult player and personality to deal with. Even if the little baby gets his way and Sol goes in this episode, Rome’s strategy of aggression and “my way or the highway” isn’t long in this game.

GATA - Day 8

Andy, Andy, Andy. Oh, Andy. Now, everyone is overlooking him and treating him as the goat, but despite his sloppiness, his underwear tearing, and dropping his Shot in the Dark, Sierra is sharing information about the bread winners with Andy and not with Sam.

Perhaps this episode is about those who are being underestimated and Andy is right there near the top of the list. He’s awkward and sloppy yet people are building trust with him and putting him into their plans whether they like it or not.

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE - Day 8

  • REWARD - 1st Place - 3 egg laying hens, 2nd Place - 6 eggs from the hens

  • No sit outs

  • New Fire Puzzle

Great design having the tribes roll the cube and then having to climb the cube to retreive bags with sand bags and pieces of a window frame to toss the bags through. Sol proves his worth in the challenge going 2 for 2 in tossing the sand bags and gets LAVO a bit of a lead.

The tribes all arrive to the puzzle at the same time. Gabe and Caroline (TUKU), Rome and Genevieve (LAVO), and Rachel and Anika (GATA) are working on the puzzle. Rome positions himself at the base of the puzzle and is throwing the challenge. It’s pretty clear. He’s overly trying every piece and failing. The puzzle ends the same way it started and there wasn’t anything Sol could do about it.

GATA wins the challenge, the 3 egg laying hens, and the right to select 3 people to go on a journey (Andy, Teeny, and Caroline). TUKU finishes 2nd and wins 6 eggs. LAVO is headed to Tribal Council.

When Jeff chats with the tribe about the failure, it feels like Rome takes over the conversation and keeps talking, the camera goes to Sol and the tension is palpable. SPEAK UP SOL!!!! IT’S NOW OR NEVER!!!!

GATA - Day 8 Post Challenge

To kill or not to kill the chicken…that is the question.

They win the reward of 3 egg laying hens. All of a sudden they have a food source (the hen) and a food producer (also the hen). My strategy thoughts, if we are hungry, one hen has to become dinner and the other 2 are the real bread winners of the tribe laying eggs and providing us scrambled eggs and hard boiled eggs a plenty.

PRE-TRIBAL SCRAMBLE - Day 8

Teeny is on the journey and the plan is looking like Rome is going to play his Steal a Vote on Sol and then he can’t play his Shot in the Dark. Kishon throws out Genevieve’s name and Rome wants to try and threatening Sol.

Thankfully Sol isn’t giving Rome the Shot in the Dark.

Thankfully Kishon is acknowledging that Rome is a lunatic and completely unlikeable and Rome’s tightness with Genevieve is a threat too, so Kishon proposes voting Rome AND I LOVE IT!!!

"At tonight’s Tribal, Rome will burn!” - Sol

Mic drop.

Let Rome use his Steal a Vote on Sol. Let Teeny lose a vote or vote for Sol.

But, let Kishon and Genevieve vote Rome and then if there’s a re-vote, vote him again and knock his drunk with power ass out of the game. It’s the best move for Kishon, Sol, and us the viewer…or is it???

JOURNEY - Day 8

“Turn over the sand timer and then read the vote”

Caroline shares about the bro-alliance, Andy is the “low information” player at GATA, and the ego battle between Rome and Sol. Gossip a plenty.

NOTE

Teeny gives up her vote (at tonight’s Tribal Council) and the three of them earn the amulet that must be played together to have the power of an idol. If one person is left standing with an amulet, it becomes an idol for that one person.

Love the threat of all of them losing their vote leading to Teeny, and nearly Caroline, sacrificing their vote in order to gain the advantage. My only concern with the amulet is that it’s only good when everyone is at the same beach aka the pre-merge/earn the merge vote and beyond and we kind of lose sight of the amulet until then. It gets forgotten.

The good part is Teeny lost her vote (she was going to either way) and we get to feel that part of the amulet immediately. Teeny also feels like the right person to have the amulet.

LAVO - Day 8

The final piece of the pre-Tribal scramble is Rome telling Genevieve that Kishon threw out her name to Rome as the decoy. Then, the Type-A Genevieve tells Rome about Kishon’s plan to vote him out and flips the Kishon plan to try and turn it back on Kishon. All of a sudden, all hell is breaking loose at LAVO and Genevieve and her controlling, Type-A personality is trying to keep Rome, build a bridge between Rome and Sol, and blindside Kishon.

No chance.

TRIBAL COUNCIL - Day 8

Sol comes clean about the Rome threat ultimatum. Rome comes clean about his apology. I don’t think we are getting anywhere with those two. It’s irreparable damage at this point.

Kishon reminds us about the 24/7 brutal nature of Survivor and that an argument shouldn’t sway you to make a vote one way or another. Don’t get emotional and I agree with Kishon. Is he the most dangerous???

Sol throws his own threat back at Rome to not steal his vote and he will be playing the Shot in the Dark anyway, even though he isn’t. Rome trusts who he trusts and doesn’t trust who he doesn’t trust. Aka Sol is voting Rome. Rome is voting Sol, or Kishon.

ROME STEALS KISHON’S VOTE!!!!!!!!

WELCOME TO THE PARTY KISHON!!!! I know Rome wasn’t my favorite player and that’s because I projected myself playing the game at camp with him and that would be tough as it is for Sol and the rest of LAVO.

However….

Watching Rome steal Kishon’s vote, create COMPLETE CHAOS, and upend everyone was AMAZING!!!!

VOTES

  • Kishon - 4

First, AMAZING BLINDSIDE via Rome’s Steal a Vote and Genevieve’s design. Round of applause to Rome for making the move but a standing ovation to Genevieve for harnessing the power of Rome in the game and using it to blindside the person she wanted to be blindsided, Kishon.

Immediately, Genevieve has tied her rope to Rome and vice versa. Teeny loses her number one in Kishon and credit to Sol for changing his vote from Rome to Kishon. Maybe there is hope for a bridge being built between Sol and Rome after all. I didn’t expect Kishon to be the bridge.

The lesson here is once again the crucial element of adaptability. In this game, especially the new era, you have to be willing to adapt your game in a heartbeat and continue to plow forward. Rome was literally following Sol around to prevent him from finding an idol because he wanted Sol to be the easy vote and then Kishon wanted to use Sol and Genevieve to oust Rome, and finally Genevieve asserted her dominance in blindsiding Kishon because knowledge is power in this game. Her last minute sign of trust to Rome, telling him he was the vote and that she wanted to blindside Kishon, proved to be the best way to adapt the game and move forward. Got to love it!

The end of this episode is the most beautiful part of Survivor - just when you think you’ve got it all figured out and you know who is getting voted out, who the heroes are, who the villains are, and who you are rooting for, it gets stolen away from you, just like Kishon’s vote.

Let’s go!!!!!!!
