Survivor 47 | Ep. 8
BEKA - Night 13
We begin back at camp with Rachel, alone, back at camp, having Safety WIthout Power and the question everyone wants to know is, “Who gave Rachel the advantage?”.
Now, of course, we know it was Sol, aka the leader of Sol’s Secret Agents (SSA) and when he tells Rachel, he makes it clear that he wants to keep it between them. If you’re Sol, I think you have to tell Rachel that night and trust that it will build the trust that he needs in this game. For Rachel, I think it’s imperative that you keep that secret. This is somebody who saved your ass in the game and there is no reason to blow that up.
THE SURVIVOR AUCTION RETURNS!!!
The auction begins with the excitement you would expect. Hell, I’m jacked up for it too! The money grabbing from the jungle begins the new era 2.0 version of the auction except for Andy. I mean the guy is a roller coaster of hot and cold. there had to be at least 40 tubes of money found total and Andy FOUND NOTHING!
REPEAT, ANDY FOUND ZERO, NOTHING, NADA, YENTE!!!!
This guy is unbelievable! One episode he’s a total trainwreck and the next, he’s winning you over with strategic moves. Now, the Andy pendulum swings back toward disaster. If memory serves me correctly, the auction in 45 ended with the person with the most money left over loses their vote. Now, Andy will avoid that disaster, but instead he won’t even get to bid, win an auction, nor really participate. That may be an even greater disaster! Imagine being on Survivor, getting to the auction, and not being able to participate.
DISASTER!
THE SURVIVOR AUCTION BEGINS
15 items total but only 5 are guaranteed. Jeff pulls a number randomly and that determines how many total items will be in the auction. The element of scarcity is perfectly dangerous.
ITEM 1 - BOWL OF POTATO CHIPS and SODA - Sol for $60
Had to be the greatest bowl of chips and soda that Sol has ever had. However, I feel like the first item is never going to be a top 3 item. I say hold off and let someone else have the chips.
ITEM 2 - BOWL OF MAC & CHEESE - Teeny for $540
Mac and cheese people would probably pay $540 for mac and cheese in other circumstances than just the Survivor auction. No protein though, so I think you have to pass. Plus, it’s the 2nd item and you know there are at least 3 others. Pass.
ITEM 3 - CHIPS, SALSA, & MARGARITA - Sierra for $800
There’s no surprise that Sierra won this. The energy she gave off with the margarita, guacamole and the whole selfie BS told me everything I needed to know about Sierra. You know that Sierra and her bffs love a Friday after work Marg-session! No protein but the margarita hooked Sierra instantly. I’d pass.
ITEM 4 - HUGE TRAY OF BUFFALO WINGS, CELERY, CARROTS - Kyle for $560
Kyle is a vegan and a vegetarian but that didn’t stop Kyle from chowing down on an incredible tray of wings. He’s right, if you’re going to sell out, this is the moment to do it. The amount of wings he got was out of control. If he finished that plate, that would be more impressive than his previous immunity challenge wins.
ITEM 5 - COLD WATER IN A COCONUT - Gabe for $660
Poor Gabe makes the wrong choice in the Monty Hall game he’s presented. Sticking with his original item landed him with a incredibly disappointing coconut. That sucks so bad. You could feel the letdown from the couch.
ITEM 6 - GIANT APPLE PIE with WHIPPED CREAM + $60 BACK - Sol for $540
A giant kick in Gabe’s gonads knowing that he could have switched his item and got the pie. Plus, the new twist of putting money back into the auction with the cash back.
ITEM 7 - CHEESEBURGER, FRIES, and BEER - Rachel for $500
The Survivor Auction just got a WHOLE LOT MORE INTERESTING!!!!!! Buried in Rachel’s fries is an extra crispy scroll of paper. I love that they did this, the way they did it, and the edit for how it was communicated.
For a second I did think about them not sticking Hidden Immunity Idol clues into food rewards anymore. Oh how wrong I can be. It’s interesting too that Rachel was the one to snatch it coming off of last Tribal Council where she was gifted Safety Without Power via Sol. The sneaky under the radar player just got sneakier.
ITEM 8 - DESSERTS - Genevieve for $500
I understand you have to put this item in, but how much did Genevieve actually eat? Is it even possible to eat all that dessert? I think we deserve to know. I’d like to see the before and after photos of each item.
ITEM 9 - HUGE BREAKFAST PLATE COMPETITION - $200
Sue, Sam, Caroline, and Sierra will compete for the breakfast by eating 2 grubs. A Survivor classic within a Survivor classic. Throwback to Borneo and Gervase.
Sue spits up some grub guts, Caroline gags put pushes throught, but Sam wins easily and wins the Survivor breakfast with all the fixins.
ITEM 10 - BURRITO & ICED TEA - Sue for $380
Desperation and luck for Sue as she snatches item 10 knowing that the auction could end at any time.
ITEM 11 - FISH EYES & $60 BACK - Caroline for $280
Standing ovation for Caroline. She went into the zone for the grubs but kept it going even harder to attack the giant fish eyes. Like Jeff said, “That’s how you do it on Survivor!”. Much respect to Caroline.
ITEM 12 - 3 MINUTES OF CHOCOLATE AND PEANUT BUTTER - Sierra for $260
Really glad that Caroline got to wash that giant fish eye and grub taste out of her mouth with the chocolate and peanut butter.. She deserves it.
The auction ends and Sam is the loser. With $160 still in his possession, Sam loses his ability to vote at Tribal Council. Sam is the victim of the $200 competition twist. Setting the price for the competition meant the winner would have to pony up $200 but likely not have enough to win other auction items.
Overall, the auction was fun for the players and the viewers alike. It brought the nostalgia of the Survivor Auction back but with an added element of suspense and danger with the french fry advantage, cash back, and Sam losing his vote. The auction will be back for 50, no doubt about it!
BEKA - Day 14
Coming back to camp after the fun, excitement, and exhilaration of the auction, getting back to the game could be felt through the TV. I think the show achieved the goal of bringing the audience along for a thrill ride with the auction.
We wander off with Rachel to find out what her french fry scroll has to offer.
The question is how to get the idol out from the tarp without anyone knowing and without destroying the tarp and drawing attention to it. My first thought is finding a stitch ripper aka the machete, the saw, a fish hook, or anything small enough to slide under the stitches and set the idol free with as little damage as possible.
Next, the strategy for who to target next. I like how Sue, Caroline, and Genevieve are thinking. They want to target the sneaky one, aka Rachel, aka the one who is about to cash in on the biggest prize of the auction.
Rachel completes her “Survivor turnaround” by seizing the opportunity to take the machete and hack the idol out from underneath the tarp and drop it down her shirt. Now Rachel, the person who got screwed over in the last episode but then was saved by her guardian angel, now has a belly full of cheeseburger and fries and a bra equipped with a hidden immunity idol that nobody knows about. We know that knowledge is power and she has the biggest secret/piece of information in the game all to herself!!!
Caroline, Sue, and Genevieve are correct, Rachel is the most dangerous player in the game.
IMMUNITY CHALLENGE - Day 15
Another Survivor classic challenge is BACK and so is the opportunity for both a man and a woman to win immunity! I wonder why production decided to double the amount of immunity winners and why they chose to make it a man and a woman. Maybe more will be gained from “On Fire”.
Early exits in under a minute from Sam, Genevieve, and Teeny. Sierra and Gabe follow quickly after.
Caroline fights off losing for a minute but drops out.
Rachel vs. Sue and Sol vs. Kyle vs. Andy
Rachel holds off losing for a moment but she can’t get the bucket back up. She drops and Sue, the oldest woman in the game, wins individual immunity!
Andy vs. Kyle for immunity.
Andy gets the rope back up and is showing some incredible fight, but it wasn’t enough. Kyle holds on and wins his third straight immunity and is making quite a name for himself in the challenge portion of the game.
PRE-TRIBAL SCRAMBLE - Day 15
The GATA/LAVO alliance is throwing around Gabe over Caroline. They feel very comfortable in the game. They feel like they can drag Andy along and they are right.
And then, ANDY COMES BACK WITH A VENGEANCE!!!
The guy is the story of Survivor 47 and continues to run the viewers on the roller coaster that is his game. He is flipping nd you have to love it. It’s thrilling to see someone in the game be self aware and self aware enough to recognize the writing on the wall and change course. Regardless of outcome, you got to love Andy right now!
On the other side of this Survivor amusement park is the decision of who to target. Andy kickstarts the scramble and it quickly goes into high gear. LAVO and TUKU are coming together knowing that targeting a GATA member is their best move. I would agree, but who?
I’m siding with separating the lock and key aka Sam and Sierra, and I think you take out Sierra. My sense is that Sam has charisma (e.g. when he game show host narrates the hunt for $ in the auction) and has the means to win the game, but I think Sierra would win over a jury more convincingly because she isn’t the obvious threat in the game that Sam physically presents.
TRIBAL COUNCIL - Night 15
We are down to the people who will decide who will win. Tonight will eliminate the first member of the jury.
Gabe sums up the episode with his World War analogy to the auction and how a group was battling, then took a break only to resume back to letting bullets fly at one another again the next day. The same is true for BEKA in this moment. In terms of the game, the merge is in the distant past and the auction was a momentary break from the harsh realities of the battle at hand, aka the game. I think as viewers we are able to feel the same emotions (to some degree) or at least understand how the players are feeling.
Teeny closes out the conversation with a warning that we are all about to venture into the part of the game we haven’t been exposed to quite yet.
I think that’s true.
PREDICTION: Sierra goes home and the game is busted wide open.
RACHEL PLAYS HER SHOT IN THE DARK - NOT SAFE
Interesting choice.
VOTES
Sierra - 4
Sam - 4
Gabe - 1
RE-VOTE
Sierra - 7
Sam - 1
Andy strikes again, Sam gets humbled, Rachel used her Shot in the Dark, and the war has begun! Saying good-bye to Sierra at this point feels appropriate. First, she and Sam were always seen as a pair and any Survivor historian knows the danger that a pair in the game can pose. For that reason, she needed to go. Next, everyone fused Sierra with Sam together whether she liked it or not. She didn’t have control of that from the get go so it’s fitting that they were targeted together all the way to a tie vote and revote. Third, we have to point the finger at Andy. Andy threw the monkey wrench into the GATA tribe from the very beginning and now, his self awareness paid off in flipping his game from being one in service for Sierra and Sam to playing his own game. Lastly, I think it feels right to say good-bye to Sierra because we never really got to know much about her.
